New in iOS 2.1.0 · Family Sharing

One family. One inventory. Zero "where did you put it?" arguments.

Invite your partner, kids, or helpers to the same move. Everyone packs, searches, and scans the same box list — updated in real time.

Snap. Label. Move. Together.

Move invites require the Family plan ($29.99/year). Invited members can join with a free account.

Invite → sync → find together

Three steps. No shared logins, no texting photos of box labels back and forth.

1

Invite by link

From Settings → Move Sharing, send an email invite. Your helper taps the link on their iPhone and joins with their own account.

2

Everyone packs

You tackle the kitchen, your partner does bedrooms, a teen handles the garage. Every box lands in the same shared inventory with photos and QR labels.

3

Search together

At the new house, anyone can search "chargers" or scan a QR label — even boxes they did not pack. No more opening twenty cartons to find one cable.

Built for how families actually move

Real-time shared inventory

When someone adds a box or snaps a photo, it shows up for everyone on that move. One source of truth for the whole household.

Invite by link

Email an invite from the app. Universal Links open BoxBuddy on iPhone so acceptance takes seconds. Invites expire after 14 days for security.

Shared QR labels

Print labels once. Movers, grandparents, or babysitters scan a code and see what's inside — even if they did not pack that box.

Who packed what

Editor and viewer roles keep things organized. Editors add and update boxes; viewers browse and search. The owner manages the member list.

The coordination pain nobody talks about

"Did you pack the kids' chargers, or did I?"

Family moves fail in the gaps between people — not because anyone is lazy, but because nobody shares the same mental map of 40+ boxes. One person labels "Misc." Another writes "Kitchen stuff." By moving day, you're both sure the router is packed, and you're both wrong.

BoxBuddy Family Sharing fixes the handoff: one move, one searchable inventory, visible to everyone you invite. When your daughter asks for pajamas at 9 PM in the new house, anyone can search and find Bedroom Box 4 — even if you packed it and she did not.

Family Sharing Is Becoming Standard. Here's What You Actually Get.

Shared inventory is not unique to BoxBuddy — several apps in this space offer it. What differs is who pays, what else you get, and whether the product is built for households or business teams.

BoxBuddy is the most complete package for households moving together: real-time shared moves plus photo cataloging, QR labels, voice notes, and keyword search in one consumer-priced plan — not a per-seat business model or a narrower home-inventory scope.

Frequently asked questions

How many people can join a shared move?

There is no fixed member cap in BoxBuddy. Invite spouses, teens, grandparents, or helpers with editor or viewer roles.

Is Family Sharing on the free plan?

Sending move invites requires the Family plan ($29.99/year). Free and Single plans can join a move when invited, but cannot send invites.

Do invited members need their own account?

Yes — each person accepts with their own BoxBuddy account using the invited email address. They do not need a paid plan to participate.

How long do invite links last?

Invites expire after 14 days. The move owner can resend from Settings → Move Sharing if someone missed the window.

Can Android or web users join?

Family Sharing is available in the BoxBuddy iOS app today. Invited members need iPhone or iPad with BoxBuddy installed to accept and use shared moves.

Does Sortly have family sharing?

Yes — Sortly offers team sharing, but it requires a paid business-tier plan with per-seat pricing that scales with team size (2, 5, 8, 12+ users by tier). BoxBuddy Family Sharing is built for households: one $29.99/year Family plan lets the owner invite members, and invited family members join free with their own accounts.

How is BoxBuddy different from Everspruce or Scan Your Boxes?

Both offer shared inventory. Everspruce includes sharing free for up to 4 users (50 entries); paid tiers raise the entry cap. Scan Your Boxes charges the owner while invitees join free, with team tiers up to 15 users. BoxBuddy bundles real-time household sharing with photo cataloging, QR labels, voice notes, and keyword search in one consumer-priced moving workflow. See our comparison research for details.
